The cars we drive and the homes we inhabit are two of the biggest contributors to our ‘carbon footprint’, or the measure of the amount of carbon dioxide or CO2 emitted through the combustion of fossil fuels as part of everyday life.   • According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), over 200 manure discharges and spills from U.S. animal farms between 1990 and 1997 have killed more than a billion fish.
  • Animal agriculture contributes 18% of the greenhouse gases according to the 2006 United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization report with methane being 20 times more potent of a greenhouse gas than CO2
  • Countless acres of rainforests have been destroyed to create land for cattle grazing and with it the trees’ abilities to produce oxygen for us
  • Researchers at the University of Chicago have determined that going vegetarian is more effective in countering global warming than switching from a standard American car to a hybrid.

In addition to reducing your “carbon footprint” by choosing a vegan diet, there are other rewards.
